The Llangollen Canal is considered the most beautiful waterway in the country. It includes the famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, one of the wonders of the canals, and is noted for its many lift bridges. Combining the route with the historic and beautiful city of Chester, known for its stunning Tudor buildings.

Itinerary Day By Day

Arrive at Manchester Airport

Transfer from Manchester Airport to overnight stay at Premier Inn. Breakfast included the following morning.

Board NB Vivien & Experience The Anderton Boat Lift

Transfer from Hotel to Uplands Marina in the morning. Visit the Anderton Boat Lift and then cruise to the historic town of Northwich for overnight stop.

Cruise from Northwich to Barbridge Junction

Cruising from Northwich to the Barbridge Junction via the Boat Lift, enjoy the first day of your vacation by soaking up all the beautiful country side as we head south.
Distance: 20 miles, Locks: 8.

Scenic Cruising into Chester

Departing from Barbridge in the morning, experience the beautiful sail in as we cruise into the Roman city of Chester for our 2 night stop over.
Distance: 15 miles, Locks: 11.


Explore Chester

Spend the day exploring one of the UK's oldest cities. Visit attractions such as the Roman Walls, Roode, Town Crier or do some shopping down the cobbled streets.

Chester to Barbridge

As we leave the city lights of Chester behind us, we retrace our route back to Barbridge as we head towards Wales.
Distance: 15 miles, Locks: 11.

Chester to Barbridge

Departing Barbridge, we sail towards Grindley Brook to go through the iconic staircase of locks.
Distance: 13 miles, Locks: 14.

Day Cruising to Ellesmere

After completing the staircase of locks yesterday, we now cruise to Ellesmere ready to complete the tunnels and aqueducts tomorrow.
Distance: 13 miles, Locks: 5.


Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

The day for the camera! Today we will cruise through the Chirk & Whitehouse Tunnels and also over the 126 foot Aqueduct.
Distance: 19 miles, Locks: 2.

Explore Llangollen

Use the day to visit the stunning Welsh country side or perhaps take a trip on the local Steam Railway. Maybe you want to visit Castell Dinas Brân or see Horse Shoe Falls.

Ellesmere Return

After meeting our most westernly point on this cruise, we now start to retrace our steps back towards Ellesmere. Stopping along the way at some traditional pubs.

Willeymoor Lock Tavern

Today we cruise towards Whitchurch for our overnight stop at the historic Willeymoor Lock Tavern . Enjoy the day as the beautiful countryside sails past.
Distance: 15 miles, Locks: 8.


Explore Whitchurch

Use the day to visit the border town of Whitchurch. Sitting on the border between England and Wales, this stop offers the best of both worlds from local high street shopping to spectacular views.

Scenic Cruising into Church Minshull

A day of locks! As we travel towards Church Minshull, now's the time to perfect the skill of operating the locks with 13 along our journey today.
Distance: 17 miles, Locks: 13.

Leisurely Cruise to Uplands Marina

Enjoying the final day of the voyage, soak up the last of the beautiful scenery as we cruise towards our home marina of Uplands. Spending the evening by a local pub opposite the boat lift.
Miles: 15, Locks: 16.

Transfer to Manchester Airport

Travelling the short distance into the marina where you can disembark and join the transfer.
